The polygons in this layer depict the parcels on which public and private schools are located within the Northeast Florida Region including Baker, Clay, Duval, Nassau, Putnam, and St. Johns counties.
<purpose>The Northeast Florida Regional Council is working with the Florida Department of Transportation, District 2 to create regional maps of "sociocultural" features, including hospitals, parks, cemeteries, historical structures, and others. The maps will provide the FDOT with improved spatial information required for planning roadway projects. This data is intended for use in the Efficient Transporation Decision Making Process (ETDM), which includes the development of an on-line application called the Environmental Screening Tool (EST). The primary objective of the program include: - Effective/timely decision making without compromising environmental quality - Integrating review and permitting processes - Early NEPA reviews and approvals - Full and early participation - Meaningful dispute resolution For more information about these initiatives an on-line search using keyword 'ETDM' will provide a number of resources. A listing of relevant documents and resources is included under: http://fdotenvironmentalstreamlining.urs-tally.com/Library/default.htm. This project will compile existing spatial data and integrate different source data into a single data set for each theme, in a format required by DOT for use in the EST and other applications. In the process, the locations will be verified and corrected to the extent possible; feature attribution will be completed in accordance with current design standards for SocioCultural Effects (SCE) data; obsolete features and other commission errors, such as demolished buildings, will be removed.</purpose>

THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA GEOPLAN CENTER SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES SUFFERED AS A RESULT OF USING, MODIFYING, CONTRIBUTING OR DISTRIBUTING THE MATERIALS A note about data scale: Scale is an important factor in data usage. Certain scale datasets are not suitable for some project, analysis, or modeling purposes. Please be sure you are using the best available data. 1:24000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the county level. 1:24000 data should NOT be used for high accuracy base mapping such as property parcel boundaries. 1:100000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the multi-county or regional level. 1:125000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the regional or state level or larger. Vector datasets with no defined scale or accuracy should be considered suspect. Make sure you are familiar with your data before using it for projects or analysis. Every effort has been made to supply the user with data documentation. For additional information, see the References section and the Data Source Contact section of this documentation. <procdesc>Northeast Florida Regional Planning Council - Process Steps: 1. Obtained all existing GIS data from county and municipal GIS departments. 2. Analyzed gc_schools_sep05 and par_schools_04 to ensure that they were comprehensive. 3. Moved the points in the geocoded gc_schools_sep05 layer to the center of their respective parcel polygons. 4. Selected the parcel polygons that contained the points from gc_schools_sep05 and exported the features. 5. Selected the par_schools_04 features that intersected the features in the exported parcel polygon layer and dropped the selected records. 6. Completed horizontal accuracy check on remaining par_schools_04 features to ensure they were the correct parcel polygons. Moved the ones that were not correct. 7. Analyzed the cadastral dataset for DOR codes 8300, 8400 to ensure that all schools were represented in the final layer. 8. Researched for missing schools via yellow pages, Florida Department of Education web site (http://www.fdoe.org) 9. Checked the final layer for quality control and made any necessary adjustments.</procdesc>
