Under federal legslation (Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century, or TEA-21), MPO's, which oversee transportation planning for urban areas with populations greater than 50,000, are also required to develop LRTPs. LRTPs are 20-year plans which guide transportation plans and investments. The data was created to serve as base information for use in GIS systems for a variety of planning and analytical purposes.
