This dataset contains the Florida County Boundaries taken from the 1990 Census Data with selected demographic fields from the 1990 Census. The topics covered in this dataset are total population and population by race. Please use caution when comparing 1990 race data to 2000 Census data and later due to the fact that in 2000 data and later, respondents were allowed to indicate more than once race. This data is specifically designed for use within the Florida Department of Transportation’s Efficient Transportation Decision Making Process (ETDM). However, the subset of demographic fields included herein is useful for a variety of applications and uses.

<procdesc>GeoPlan downloaded the spatial portion of this dataset from: https://www.nhgis.org/ on November 2, 2011. When downloaded, the shapefile was in USA_Contiguous_Albers_Equal_Area_Conic - Datum NAD83. The shapefile was projected to Albers HPGN. The shapefiles was dissolved based on the field FIPSSTCO. (note: Miami-Dade fips code was changed from 025 to 086). The tabular portion of this dataset was downloaded from: http://censtats.census.gov/cgi-bin/pl94/pl94data.pl on March 30th, 2012. The tabular portion was joined to the spatial portion based on fips code. The result was exported to a new shapefile and named CNTDEM1990.shp. The following standard GeoPlan QaQc steps were performed: -upcased all text fields -added DESCRIPT based on NAME -added FGDLAQDATE based on date tabular data downloaded from source.</procdesc>
