Each District was tasked with smoothing the urban boundaries in their area, thus modifying the original data. This is done in conjunction with updating functional classification, which is coded based on urban or rural. The data was received by Central Office GIS from each District. The data was quality checked for duplicate polygons, slivers, null values for “Name”, etc, and returned to the Districts if cleanup was necessary. Once all of the urban boundaries from each District were received and verified for quality, they were merged into one shape file. This file was examined in Central Office along with functional classification roads to ensure that roads that fell along the urban boundary were completely within or outside of the urban boundary.
