<descript>
The emphasis placed on multi-modal transportation in the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU), as well as in previous transportation legislation (Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act (ISTEA) and the Transportation Equity Act of the 21st Century (TEA 21)) seeks to establish Park and Ride Lot development and implementation as an integral part of the overall transportation system. With States having limited road construction funding in comparison to local needs, Department’s of Transportation nationwide are looking to make existing roadways as efficient as possible. Park and Ride lots, as part of an integrated transportation system, can be implemented to make maximum use of available transportation funding. In addition, Park and Ride lots have the potential to decrease traffic demand by preserving roadway capacity and encouraging the use of carpooling, vanpooling, and transit. Such facilities are generally far less expensive than the cost of adding roadway capacity or the loss of development opportunities. Park and Ride lots provide the essential safe locations where personal vehicles can be left while commuters utilize high occupancy modes of travel.
      <purpose>This data serves to provide District Five personnel and their consultants information on all current Park and Ride lots, including, but not limited to: lot location, lot utilization, lighting, signage, etc.</purpose>

THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA GEOPLAN CENTER SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES SUFFERED AS A RESULT OF USING, MODIFYING, CONTRIBUTING OR DISTRIBUTING THE MATERIALS. A note about data scale: Scale is an important factor in data usage. Certain scale datasets are not suitable for some project, analysis, or modeling purposes. Please be sure you are using the best available data. 1:24000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the county level. 1:24000 data should NOT be used for high accuracy base mapping such as property parcel boundaries. 1:100000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the multi-county or regional level. 1:125000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the regional or state level or larger. Vector datasets with no defined scale or accuracy should be considered suspect. Make sure you are familiar with your data before using it for projects or analysis. Every effort has been made to supply the user with data documentation. For additional information, see the References section and the Data Source Contact section of this documentation. <procdesc>This data set was received via email from Douglas Lynch of Jacobs Carter Burgess. The data was received in January 2008 in personal geodatabase format. The data was originally in Geographic WGS 1984 and was projected to Albers HPGN. Point information for LOCATION = SR 50/NARCOOSSEE RD. was deleted because the lot is no longer maintained by FDOT. Addition information was supplied within a separate table. The table had multiple records for each lot location. For each unique lot, all records were deleted from the table except for the most recent INSPDATE. A join was then executed based on the LOTID number. - All records were upcased. - Changed original layer name from FDOT_District5_ParkNRide_Lot_Locations to PARKNRIDE_D5.shp - A DESCRIPT field was added based on LOCATION - A FGDLAQDATE field was added based on date of download.</procdesc>
