This dataset contains 2019 Bridge Structure (point) location information for the State of Florida. This bridge layer focuses mainly on bridges over water, for the complete National Bridge Inventory (NBI) point layer please see the FGDL layer BTS_BRIDGE. This dataset is a combination of bridge structures from 4 different sources, and it is derived from the GC_BRIDGES_APR19 line layer. The data contains selected fields denoting the name, bridge id, roadway, physical location, and other structure information for bridges located in Florida. Please Note: This layer can be joined to the NBI BTS_BRIDGE layer via the BRIDGE_ID field and the ITEM8 field in the NBI. This data is meant to be used for planning purposes only and is not intended to represent a 100% inventory of bridges in Florida. Bridge locations that have been verified are marked with the letter V in the FLAG field.
      <purpose>The data was created to serve as base information for use in GIS systems for a variety of planning and analytical purposes.</purpose>
      <supplinf>National Bridge Inspection Standards What is a bridge? A bridge is defined in section 650.305 Definitions as "A structure including supports erected over a depression or an obstruction, such as water, highway, or railway, and having a track or passageway for carrying traffic or other moving loads, and having an opening measured along the center of the roadway of more than 20 feet between under copings of abutments or spring lines of arches, or extreme ends of openings for multiple boxes; it may also include multiple pipes, where the clear distance between openings is less than half of the smaller contiguous opening." <useconst>The Florida Geographic Data Library is a collection of Geospatial Data compiled by the University of Florida GeoPlan Center with support from the Florida Department of Transportation. GIS data available in FGDL is collected from various state, federal, and other agencies (data sources) who are data stewards, producers, or publishers. The data available in FGDL may not be the most current version of the data offered by the data source. University of Florida GeoPlan Center makes no guarantees about the currentness of the data and suggests that data users check with the data source to see if more recent versions of the data exist. Furthermore, the GIS data available in the FGDL are provided 'as is'. The University of Florida GeoPlan Center makes no warranties, guaranties or representations as to the truth, accuracy or completeness of the data provided by the data sources. The University of Florida GeoPlan Center makes no representations or warranties about the quality or suitability of the materials, either expressly or implied, including but not limited to any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. The University of Florida GeoPlan Center shall not be liable for any damages suffered as a result of using, modifying, contributing or distributing the materials. A note about data scale: Scale is an important factor in data usage. Certain scale datasets are not suitable for some project, analysis, or modeling purposes. Please be sure you are using the best available data. 1:24000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the county level. 1:24000 data should NOT be used for high accuracy base mapping such as property parcel boundaries. 1:100000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the multi-county or regional level. 1:125000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the regional or state level or larger. Vector datasets with no defined scale or accuracy should be considered suspect. Make sure you are familiar with your data before using it for projects or analysis. Every effort has been made to supply the user with data documentation. For additional information, see the References section and the Data Source Contact section of this documentation. For more information regarding scale and accuracy, see our webpage at: http://geoplan.ufl.edu/education.html</useconst>

      <procstep>
        <procdesc>GeoPlan Center Process Steps (June 5th, 2019): Bridge locations and information were obtained from the BTS_bridge point layer, ETAT_bridge line layer and the FHWA NBI 2015. A selection was done on the BTS_bridge point layer based off a field named Item 42 which indicates what is under a bridge. From this "5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 0" (all indicating water under a bridge) were selected out of the layer in a standalone shapefile. Each BTS_bridge point was individually inspected to verify whether or not the bridge point was accurate, while creating a line feature extent either manually or based on RCI_Roads where not available, for each point. Bridge locations were checked using imagery and Google Street View and either marked as Verified, Not Verified, or Future Not Verified in the FLAG field, please see the FLAG field Attribute Definition for more information. (some were noted in the NOTES field as "95%" likely which indicates) that everything was likely correct but a visual verification check was not confirmed. A SHPO SITE ID was added to each bridge feature where applicable. A Roadway ID was added to each bridge line feature from an RCI roadway data set where it could be applied. An H_LINK field was added for the purpose of linking to PDF files taken from the FDOT Historic Highway Bridges of Florida 2010 (.PDF File). PDF's can be accessed at the following location: https://www.geoplan.ufl.edu/agol/pdf/FDOT_Bridge_Id_PDFs/ More bridges were added with the same review process from FHWA NBI 2015. Next GeoPlan Center performed the following attribute table adjustments. -Upper cased all records. -Added DESCRIPT field based on NAME. -Added and Calculated Lat_DD, Long_DD, MGRS, XMIN, YMIN, XMAX, YMAX. -Added and Calculated LEN_FT. -Added FGDLAQDATE based on the date GeoPlan acquired the data from the Source. -Socio-Cultural Effect data fields and definitions were added. FLAG, UPDATE_DAY, CITY, ZIPCODE, COUNTY, FDOT DISTRICT, FGDLAQDATE. Finally, the lines were converted into points using Feature to Point, which utilizes the center of the line feature to create each point feature.</procdesc>

    <resdesc>DOWNLOADABLE DATA</resdesc>
    <distliab>The Florida Geographic Data Library is a collection of Geospatial Data compiled by the University of Florida GeoPlan Center with support from the Florida Department of Transportation. For more information regarding scale and accuracy, see our webpage at: http://geoplan.ufl.edu/education.html</distliab>
