Please be sure you are using the best available data. 1:24000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the county level. 1:24000 data should NOT be used for high accuracy base mapping such as property parcel boundaries. 1:100000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the multi-county or regional level. 1:125000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the regional or state level or larger. Vector datasets with no defined scale or accuracy should be considered suspect. Make sure you are familiar with your data before using it for projects or analysis. NOAA’s Continually Updated Shoreline includes all national shoreline that has been verified by contemporary imagery and shoreline from other non-NOAA sources. This shoreline vector only includes shoreline and alongshore features that represent shoreline (groin, breakwater, and jetty). Shoreline is a dynamic interface between land and water. The cartographic depiction of shoreline is a representation at the time of survey. Continually Updated Shoreline Product (CUSP) provides the most up-to-date shoreline of the United States and its territories. CUSP will identify the most up-to-date surveys for inclusion, employ state-of-the-art technology for cartographic review, attribute shoreline features, and develop a strategy to replace shoreline as it becomes available. CUSP is a separate product from the project-based national shoreline mapped by the National Geodetic Survey (NGS). The national shoreline from the Coastal Mapping Program provides accurate tidal referenced shoreline, aids to navigation, hazards to navigation, and associated cultural and topographic reference data primarily for nautical chart applications. CUSP will only include shoreline and alongshore features that represent shoreline (groin, breakwater, and jetty). CUSP has less stringent data acquisition requirements and quality control measures compared to the Coastal Mapping Program's National Shoreline. Where applicable, CUSP will reference a mean high water shoreline based on vertical (VDatum) modeling or image interpretation using water level stations and/or shoreline indicators. CUSP is built upon contemporary NGS's National Shoreline which comprises approximately one-third of our nation's shoreline and focuses primarily on the most navigational significant areas. CUSP uses and incorporates both NOAA and non-NOAA contemporary sources (Lidar, imagery, and external shoreline vectors) to replace shoreline areas of older vintage. Shoreline continues to be reviewed with contemporary imagery and additional data is being included with the goal of providing a continuous shoreline of our nation and its territories. For additional information, please see the CUSP One Pager (https://geodesy.noaa.gov/INFO/OnePagers/CUSPOnePager.pdf).</SPAN></P></DIV></DIV></DIV></idAbs><idCredit>NOAA Continually Updated Shoreline Product (CUSP)

Shoreline vectors were verified with contemporary imagery. Sources of non-NOAA vector shoreline included U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources, and U.S. Geological Survey. Non-NOAA imagery sources for interpreting shoreline included USDA-FSA Aerial Photography Field Office, ESRI Imagery World 2D (USGS, U.S. Geological Survey, and U.S. Department of Agriculture), Bing Maps Imagery Service, and Google Earth (TerraMetrics and DigitalGlobe).</statement><prcStep xmlns=""><stepDesc>All features were attributed to conform to a subset of the NGS 'Coastal Cartographic Object Attribute Source Table' (C-COAST) attribution scheme. Current shoreline sources include individual National Shoreline projects, Lidar derived, automated feature extracted, monoscopically compiled, and non-NOAA sources of shoreline that were merged and stitched together and verified with contemporary imagery. The CUSP shoreline may include limited compilation from contemporary verification imagery (National Agriculture Imagery Program) if tidal influences minimally influenced the horizontal position. Some water courses were closed off with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's National Wetlands Inventory vectors. Edits may have been made to sections of the original shoreline vertices, as opposed to new compilation, to reflect the contemporary position.</stepDesc><stepDateTm>2024-08-10T00:00:00</stepDateTm><stepProc xmlns=""><rpOrgName>NGS Communications and Outreach Branch</rpOrgName><rpPosName>Communications and Outreach Branch, NOAA, N/NGS12</rpPosName><role><RoleCd value="009"/></role><rpCntInfo xmlns=""><cntAddress addressType="postal"><delPoint>National Geodetic Survey, SSMC3 #8716</delPoint><city>Silver Spring</city><adminArea>MD</adminArea><postCode>20910-3282</postCode><eMailAdd>ngs.infocenter@noaa.gov</eMailAdd><country>US</country><delPoint>1315 East-West Highway</delPoint></cntAddress><cntPhone><voiceNum tddtty="">(301) 713-3242</voiceNum><faxNum>(301) 713-4172</faxNum></cntPhone><cntInstr>National Shoreline Email:

During the QA/QC process the following tasks were undertaken:
- Uppercased all records in the table except any URL fields.
- A DESCRIPT field was added based on the following:
 "SHORELINE (" + str(!ATTRIBUTE!) + ")"
- A FGDLAQDATE field was added based on date downloaded from source.
- Renamed file to CUSP_AUG24.
