The subset only covers the water links between and around the state of Florida and is in the form of a line feature class based on a route feature class for the NWN update regions (“1” through “7”, as well as the open ocean region “0”) and route event table with linear referencing system measures for NWN links. This dataset is a feature class with associated measures (in miles) that are used for finding distances, locating features, and displaying route event layers. It was exported from this route event layer. The nominal scale of the dataset varies with the source material. The majority of the information is at 1:100,000 with larger scales used in harbor/bay/port areas and smaller scales used in open waters. &lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;/DIV&gt;&lt;/DIV&gt;&lt;/DIV&gt;</idAbs>
		<idPurp>The Florida subset of the National Waterway Network is simply a snapshot of the geographic database of navigable waterways in and around the United States and can be used for analytical studies of waterway performance, for compiling commodity flow statistics, and for mapping purposes. </idPurp>
		<idCredit>• The NWN is a geographic database of navigable waterways in and around the U.S. The NWN database was developed by Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) and Vanderbilt University, with input from the National Waterway GIS Design Committee NWGISDC), for analytical studies of waterway performance, for compiling commodity flow statistics, and for mapping purposes.

			• The NHD is a geographic database that interconnects and uniquely identifies the stream segments or reaches of the nation's surface water drainage system. The NHD dataset is a national framework for assigning reach addresses to water-related entities, such as industrial discharges, drinking water supplies, fish habitat areas, and wild and scenic rivers. Reach addresses establish the locations of these entities relative to one another within the NHD surface water drainage network.

		• The NCF is a database providing information about congressionally authorized navigation channels maintained (through the eHydro hydrographic survey application) by the USACE. It includes channel details such as reaches, channel areas, quarters, centerlines, and stationing.</idCredit>

NWN links were updated periodically. The final update results only represent information at the time when the update datasets were lastly downloaded or modified as required by IWR. In this project, NHD datasets were updated on October 1, 2019 by USGS and NWN and NCF datasets were updated on June 26, 2019 and February 7, 2020 by USACE, respectively. In addition, six NWN links were added as required by IWR on April 29, 2020 and May 5, 2020. From NHD: None; however, users should be aware that temporal changes may have occurred since this data set was collected and that some parts of this data may no longer represent actual surface conditions. Users should not use this data for critical applications without a full awareness of its limitations. Acknowledgment of the U.S. Geological Survey would be appreciated for products derived from these data.From NCF: None. From NWN: Certain fields in the "NWN_Update" attribute table are obtained from original NWN link dataset by linking "LINKNUM". Some of these original NWN fields don't match the lengths of the measures in the linear referencing system (LRS), where measures are stored within the route lines themselves and individual links are plotted using the route measures and "MIN_MEAS" and "MAX_MEAS". In the final deliverable, we use projected Geographic Coordinate System (GCS) with North American Datum of 1983 (GCS North American 1983 (WKID: 4269)). It should be noted that NWN links were updated under two projection systems appropriate for calculating distances by region, including: “North_America_Equidistant_Conic” and “Hawaii Albers Equal Area Conic” to ensure the accuracy of distance calculations within LRS. The measures used in the LRS are based on these linear distances. 			Route events can be displayed as a layer depicting lines by using the “Make Route Event Layer” tool in ArcMap using the route name (WATERWAY_Unique), the “from” measure field (MIN_MEAS), and the “to” measure field (MAX_MEAS) – applied to the “Routes feature class”.

			The above fields 4) and 8) to 34) are obtained from original NWN link dataset by linking "LINKNUM". Certain attributes may not match the updated value. For example, the "waterway_network_LENGTH" or "waterway_network_LENGTH1" are obtained from original NWN link dataset and don't match the lengths of the measures in the linear referencing system (LRS), where measures are stored within the route lines themselves and individual links are plotted using the route measures and "MIN_MEAS" and "MAX_MEAS". Users SHOULD NOT use the values from the original NWN when considering LRS as the line geometry will have changed from the original.

			Due to the large geographic extent of NWN, the regions were projected separately to ensure a high level of accuracy. The projection used for each region is listed below.

					- Dataset projected into the FGDL Albers HARN projection using WGS_1984_(ITRF00)_To_NAD_1983 + NAD_1983_To_HARN_Florida.
					- Only features in Florida and the surrounding area were desired, so the features were selected by their geographic location and exported to a new layer named BTSWW_2023
					- DESCRIPT field added based on the RIVERNAME field. Any records with no data in the RIVERNAME field had their DESCRIPT field calculated as 'NO DESCRIPT AVAILABLE'.
					- FGDLAQDATE field added based on the date the dataset was downloaded from source.
					- The field DIR was deleted since it was empty
					- The longest record for each field was found and field character lengths were shortened to the appropriate shortest length possible.
					- Uppercased fields and appropriate records in the dataset.
